Modern Dictionary of Everyday Diagnoses

We’ve become so obsessed with diagnosing everyone around us that we've completely forgotten how to just let people be human.

I am not sure if it is just me, or if the relationship and behavioral lingo these days needs a dictionary in itself. Do you remember when “Delulu is the new selulu” went viral ? I wanted to be that facepalm emoji !

Remember back in the day when a bad mood was just a bad mood? When you felt a little distant from a friend, you called it a rough patch. When someone stopped replying to your texts, you just figured they were busy, distracted, or uninterested.

Nowadays? Absolutely not. You aren't just feeling low; you are experiencing seasonal apathy. You aren't just taking a quiet weekend for yourself, you’re in low-battery social preservation mode. We have officially entered an era where every single human quirk, emotion, and relationship hiccup has been cataloged, diagnosed, and branded with a fancy new internet-approved term.

It feels like every week, the collective internet psychology department drops a brand-new vocabulary list. We went from having a normal, manageable range of human emotions to playing minesweeper with clinical-sounding buzzwords:

Feeling a bit anxious before stepping out? That’s social battery depletion.

Ignoring a phone call from your boss on a Sunday evening? You are establishing boundaries.

Someone is quiet at a dinner party? They are avoidant detachers.

Don’t even get me started on trying to cancel plans because you’re exhausted - congratulations, you are depressed.

Staring blankly at the wall for twenty minutes because life is heavy? A temporal dissociation vortex (okay, I might have made that last one up, but give Insta a week).

The funniest and most terrifying part of this modern era is that half the time, we are committing these psychological offenses without even knowing a term has been coined for them. You think you’re just being absent-minded or clumsy in a conversation, only to find out you've accidentally pioneered a brand-new behavioral disorder with a three-syllable acronym.

And let us spend half a minute of our lives talking about these relationship terms. According to modern dating culture, you can't just have a minor disagreement. You my friend, are constantly swiveling between dodging, gaslighting, breadcrumbing, stonewalling, and love-bombing. Did your friend take two days to reply? They aren't just swamped with work; they’re exhibiting dismissive-avoidant attachment traits. We’ve turned relationships into a psychological thriller where everyone is both the detective and the suspect.

I will admit: when these terminologies first came in, it was comforting. Giving a name to a weird, unexplainable feeling made you feel less alone, like you’d finally cracked the user manual of your own brain. But it also turned everyday life into an exhausting self-help manual.

The real trouble begins when everyone overnight becomes a self-appointed counselor. People are now terrifyingly quick to slap a formal-sounding diagnosis on a friend, partner, or colleague, completely skipping the most basic human requirement: treating each other with normalcy and grace.

Instead of accepting that people are flawed (yes, I am one of them!), stressed, moody, or just having an off day, the world immediately jumps to pathologizing them. We’ve become so obsessed with diagnosing everyone around us that we've completely forgotten how to just let people be human.

To be completely clear: I am not denying that real clinical conditions exist, nor am I dismissing mental health. Real psychological struggles are heavy and complex, but let the experts decide that for you. I am all for mental health, let's seek help from qualified professionals, not via a viral Instagram terminology trend.

At the end of the day, slapping a trendy, clinical name on a feeling doesn't actually fix it. It just makes us feel like certified experts in our own dysfunction.

Maybe the real rebellion isn't finding the exact right buzzword for your vibe. Maybe it's just letting a weird day be a weird day, extending a little patience, and refusing to turn your entire life into a case study. Keep it Simple Silly they said !

After all, at this rate, it feels like we aren't even having human experiences anymore we’re just in a long-term situationship with internet terms.
