Push me baby one more time!

My inner circle knows me as someone who is risk-averse, follows a pattern, and is happiest when no one is telling me to try something new. And yet — I know I need that nudge.

My inner circle of friends know me as someone who is risk averse, follows a pattern in life, enjoys it the most when someone is not constantly telling her "lets try the new hangout" or "lets use this new product" or "you need to work on your confidence and start being more spontaneous."

In a nutshell — I like to follow a tried, tested, self-approved lifestyle and I am happy with it. I like my safe zone and stepping out of it is excruciating for me. I am hardwired to resist change and it makes me feel I am not in control.

But does that mean I don't like to try new things or change who I am to become a better person? I do. Who wouldn't?

Luckily for me, I am surrounded by smart, intelligent, confident, creative, mindful people who are always looking out for each other and helping me become an even better version of myself.

What I need is a helping hand and a gentle nudge to push my boundaries little by little.

For a person who deals with anxiety and over-thinking issues, my first response to change is always no. It's disruptive. Why challenge the status quo? I like my state of safe inertia.

But here is the thing — if you are ready to give me a chance (read: multiple chances), I can work with you.

A simple example. For almost 3 years my husband tried to make me share his love for mushrooms. Now never in my life had I eaten mushrooms, so when he asked me the first time my instant response was NO. It is yucky! Well — long story short — after 3 years of gentle persistence, I tried mushrooms. And I loved them. I was furious at myself for waiting so long.

Sometimes the thing you are most resistant to is exactly the thing you need. You just need someone patient enough to wait while you get there.

So please — push me baby one more time. I promise I'll get there eventually.
